In this post we talk about sorting out your computer files.
1. Have A File Name
Always have a file name and never have a file called untitled.txt or new document.docx It is much easier to find things with a short and friendly file name such as:
carprices_2008.zip
shoppinglist.txt
todo.txt
2. Put Files In Folders
Put files in folders instead of having to search through a long list of files put them into categories such as:
Banking
Cooking
Photos
3. Have A Sorting Folder
Create a folder named Sorting and sort it out every week or daily (If you get lots of files daily from other) Clean out the sorting folder and put the files in folders and delete any unneeded files that you have put in if you think you need it put it into a archive file.
4. Make Backups of important files
To backup your data you will need a data disc and a disc burner such as Nero. Make sure you make multiple copies and store it in on site and offside locations. Use a portable hard drive, use internet storage if needed, and data discs. Make sure you do not cut on costs when it comes to backing up data and research methods of backing up and types of devices to use. Also make sure you backup regularly.
5. Get rid of the malware!
To get rid of malware use good virus software from a trusted publisher. Good examples of Anti-Virus software are Kaspersky Anti Virus which has a great detection rate and AVG which is a free anti-virus program. Once you find a suitable product run a scan and remove any threats if needed. Make sure you scan with Anti-Rootkit and Anti-Spyware applications as well as Anti Virus applications.
